Youth-Led Urban Innovation Spotlighted at International Online Conference by ISSF

At the 10th Edition of the International Week 2025, hosted virtually by the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE), Associate Professor Rabia Bayındır from Akdeniz University and the Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Future (ISSF) presented a visionary project under the theme “Sport, Sustainability, and Social Impact: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Well-being.”

Her presentation introduced the forward-thinking initiative titled “Youths’ Creative Solutions for Placemaking for Encounters at Children’s Playgrounds.” The project empowers young people to contribute innovative ideas in the re-design and repurposing of playgrounds, transforming them into dynamic public spaces that encourage learning, play, intercultural dialogue, and social cohesion.

Rabia Bayındır highlighted the urgent need for human-centered urban development—particularly in post-pandemic societies—where children are at the core of design strategies. The project addresses the lack of inclusive urban spaces by advocating for playgrounds as potential educational and community hubs that can also support cultural operators seeking new avenues to engage with the public.

Through community participation and public consultation, the initiative encourages more inclusive and forward-looking urban policies, enhancing mental well-being, social resilience, and a sense of belonging across all age groups.
